My President is Black RMX

I had to post this. The new remix to Jeezy's My President is black (ft. Jay-Z) leaked today.
I'm really hoping Jeezy does go on O'Reilly.
If it's half as entertaining as the Cam'ron & Damon Dash appearance,
it'll have America's Tivo's on repeat.
The new lyrics added will surely heat up the debate.

“Bill O’Reilly eat a dick, nice try, you’re really being a racist asshole in a nice tie/and tell Dennis Miller his show suck anyway, and I’d rather watch Jimmy Kimmel anyday…”

Thanks to Nah Right for the tip off!

If this doesn't kill autotune what will?

It's been a while since I've been that stoked to hear a nu-mash remix...BUT, I was laughin my ass off when I read the tag "if this doesn't kill autotune what will" below this newish post on The Hood Internet. HOLLA!
Seriously. I heard some random rap personality talking the other day about how T-Pain has been on over 50 songs and NOT been featured on a single magazine cover. Hmmm. So the guy responsible for hammering the final nails into the mainstream hip-hop coffin isn't respected? Go figure.

All the while everyone keeps pickin on Soulja Boy.....

Lil Wayne & Karl Blau walk into a bar

OK. It's totally freezing here in Lawrence KS. This weather blows. Snowy, Icy, Bitter, all around bum out weather. What better to warm my soul than the new Karl Blau. "Nature's got away" has Blau at his most produced pinnacle. It's not overproduced. It's basically everything I have wanted from Karl at this point. This dude gave me a record for 5 bones on tour with Calvin Johnson after I told him I was going to have a baby. He looked into my soul and said, dude, you're going to be ok and "here's a record I recorded when I was having my baby girl. Life is good, you're going to be ok." So, 3 cheers for Karl Blau.

Karl Blau - Before Telling Dragons

AND if anyone still cares...here's the new Lil Wayne leaked single that BLOWS. BUT...it's worth hearing just to cement how fucking bad it is. WTF? Please, someone send P.O.D. into this studio to warn him of the territory he's in!!!!!!

Lil' Wayne - Prom Queen

Top weirdest stories of the past week...

Alright, the top of my list is the slipping into insanity Joaquin Phoenix. WTF is this guy thinking? First there's viral video of him falling off a stage, while performing a "rap" concert at a hotel. Then come to find out Casey Affleck is following him around and shooting a "documentary" about it. AND to cap it all off there's a new myspace page with 3 tracks supposedly recorded by Joaquin himself. What do you think? Hoax? Stupidity? Insanity? Media duping? Between Idolator and the Mtv Newsroom, Phoenix is killing it on free Internet hype.

Joaquin Phoenix rapping and falling.

Ewwww.

Second, there's the Ryan Leslie issue floating around thanks to the Fader blog. Is this guy a Sasha Baron Cohen character? He does look a lot like him when he takes his glasses off. Is the music really worth listening to beyond the single? His own video diary is intriguing but I can't say I'm still not trying to figure out who this character is. I mean, I hadn't even heard of the guy when this story popped up. Whattya think? Would Sasha go to this great length to dupe people again? If it's not...and I were Ryan Leslie, I would not be happy to be compared to Borat.

Dr. Dre Detoxification (Mixtape)

I don't know about you, but I LOVED Chronic 2001. I still hear people drunkly trying to rap all of "Forgot about Dre," at least once a month at an after party. The record was released during a good part of my life. I'm referring to the nothing other than the incredible new millennium. DUH. Who didn't love 2000/2001? This tape seems to be popping up all over the net this week, but it seems to have been compiled over the last couple of years. Either way, its not bad. Dre's new record Detox should be out sooner than later......if releasing a mixtape is a sign of that. Considering it was slated to be released in 04' I'm not holding my breath! It's one of my anticipated records of 09! There's some super hot tracks worthy of any winter weekend party. Eff the cold, let's get it HOTT in herr!

Dr. Dre - Detoxification (Mixtape)

If Lil Waynes rock record hits stores before detox, I may give up hope. For the record the new Lil Wayne single "Prom Queen" leaked to youtube this weekend. It's probably the worst song I've EVER heard. "Prom Queen" is comparable to the ill fated Dee Dee Ramones 80's rap album. Someone please chirp in Weezies ear and tell em this shit is WACK!!

David Bazan wants to play your house

The inimitable David Bazan is looking to book several intimate gigs in the near future. According to DavidBazan.com they will be booking a limited number of Bazan house shows in 2009. Encouraging fans host a show in their house or loft. They are looking for shows on the west coast (Vancouver down to San Diegoarea) in late February and Early March. And in the Midwest, South and East Coast during April.

This seems like an interesting marketing strategy, considering his style of interacting with the audience. His sets seem meant for this type of tour, but with acclaim comes bigger venues.

Ticket prices will be $20. They will not advertise where the show is.
Only ticket holders will have the address for the evening.

I wish I had a bigger apartment. Hmmmm...maybe the old Billions farmhouse will be available here in Lawrence.

Check out the full list of details @ DavidBazan.com

Bazan also has a new DVD titled Alone at the Microphone.

Plus a new 7" American Flags which is also available on iTunes.

Phil Elverum is a busy busy man!!

It seems that Phil Elverum is determined to enter the Guinness book of world records for releasing the most records in a year. Mount Eerie has another incredible release. This time around it's another book. Somehow he manages to stay relevant by morphing his Microphones/Mt. Eerie project into an art project. -BARR

You might recognize this track from previous Elverum releases. The songs on this record are bare bones. Not the typical reverb soaked studio trickery you may be used to.

Mount Eerie - Moon Sequel

According to the Buenaventura Press site:

The music of Mount Eerie and The Microphones has always been a very personal, almost voyeuristic, glimpse inside the mind of Phil Elverum. Dawn delves deep into an intensely creative period of Elverum's life with a beautiful mix of journal writing, jokes, photographs and music. This 144-page hardcover collection chronicles a winter spent alone in a cabin in arctic Norway wrestling with ghosts, gathering wood, acting out the myths: 3 months of inspired brain torrents interspersed with drawings. This collection comes with a 16-page color photo booklet and a 17-track CD of songs written during that time. These songs have become well known over the years through previous recordings and live performances but never properly released until now. Buenaventura Press. 5.25 x 5.25 in. 144 pp. Hardcover. November 2008.
